What to remember

1

Leadership is not about being the boss. It is about supporting others.

2

Self-confidence grows with practice and positive feedback.

3

Deaf leaders are role models for Deaf young people.

Leadership does not mean telling people what to do. A good leader supports others, shares responsibility, and listens to the group. Self-confidence is important for leadership — and it grows with practice. Every time you facilitate a session and it goes well, your confidence grows. As a Deaf youth worker, you are a role model. Young Deaf people need to see that Deaf people can lead.
